RATING: VERY GOOD
SPOILERS!!!
I have to say that I did not expect the surprise at the end of the book at all. It was a great end for the book.
The women work together to help Bella to hide the murder of Ewan. Skye and Chrissy drive the body to where Skye has her houseboat, and they throw the body into the river and use a anchor to stop from resurfacing. At the same time, Jen comes up with the idea of complicating things more by getting the police another crime to confuse them. So that is why she creates the scenario in her flat.
When Iona gets an order to search Bella's house, the woman panics and asks to have her lawyer present. So she calls Chrissy, who tells her that she will be there in twenty minutes, so the police wait. Then a car appears. It is not Chrissy; it's Jen. The police take her to the station, forgetting about searching Bella's house. Jen explains everything, saying that she and Eliot had a row and that was why there was blood in her flat because she had hit the coffee table with her fist and got injured. She says that she went to the Hilton to pamper herself and forget about Eliot and their row, and she left her phone behind because she didn't want to be disturbed. When she is asked why there were so many calls from Ewan to her phone, she says that he was her boss after all.
After that, Yannis thinks that they should close the case because Ewan Upton left on his own accord, fleeing after embezzling all that money.
Months later the five women get together for a purpose. Bella is left at a pub, and the other four go to finish the job. While Jen and Electra keep watch, Chrissie and Skye go into the water to find the body that they left months ago. They retrieve the clothes in which he was dressed, and they also remove the anchor, anything that can connect it to them. They know that just the bones won't be able to show how Ewan died.
After that, they meet at the pub with Bella. The money that Ewan embezzled was found in a secret account, and Chrissie got to transfer it to Bella's without being traceable. Bella is a much happier person and has plans for all that money. Chrissie has understood that her marriage is over, so she plans to divorce Russell. Electra and Zach are back together. She realised she made a mistake, and she went to find Zach, asking for forgiveness, and he was more than willing to get back together with her, but her condition is that he started university. So he is now studying journalism and has a job in the university canteen. And Skye refused to be a surrogate for Pedro and Felippe, and she is now with Mort, but she knows that they are both free spirits, and now that she has decided to homeschool Juniper, which involves travelling, she knows that her days with Mort are numbered. And Jen announces that she is expecting a child.
Jen is the one who surprises us as she remembers how she came to be where she is now. Working for Bella, she realised that Teddy was a sturdy child, and she thought that his genes were strong. So she seduced Ewan so that she could get pregnant. When she discovered that she was pregnant, she decided to leave him, but he had other plans. He threatened to tell everybody what kind of woman she was. He even said that he knew she was pregnant. Then Jen decided to kill him, but she needed a scapegoat. That's why she changed Bella's medication for paracetamol, and for this reason Bella started to have psychotic episodes. So the night of the mothers' meeting she tampered with Bella's drink, which made her drunk. When she left Bella on the sofa, she went upstairs where Ewan was sleeping and she stabbed him. Yet, Bella thought it had been hers. What she didn't expect is that Chrissie and the others decided to cover up for Bella. That was a good ending to this engaging book.
