The Perfect Couple 2 - The End (Pages 152 - end)

RATING: GOOD

SPOILERS!!!

During the investigation of Merritt's death, Chief Kapenash and The Greek discover that the people involve hide several seccrets.

Merritt was pregnant with Tag's child, but he left her. Tag intended to pay for an abortion, but she refused to do that. Tag became the main suspect as he was last seen with her. Tag admits that he took Merritt on his boat, but after a fight she jumped into the sea and he held her by her hand and that is why she had a bruise.

Another secret comes from Celeste. That night she and Shooter talked, and she finally agreed that she couldn't marry Benji. That is why she had a small suitcase with her. Her intention was to meet Shooter at the dock, but then she found Merritt's body.

Thomas, the younger son, was in a relationship with Feather for years, but when Abby got pregnant, he broke up with her. Feather was very upset, and she decided to come to the wedding although that was against Thomas's wishes. We discover that Abby knew about it.

The key to Merritt's death was a glass of water and Greer's sleeping pills. The glass disappeared the morning after, and the Chief thinks that the glass which Merritt drank contained traces of those sleeping pills. Greer admits that she left her pills in the kitchen, and when Merritt said she was thirsty, Feather volunteered to go for a glass of water in the kitchen. After filling the glass, she popped to the toilet, and it seems that Abby, thinking that the glass was for Feather, added the pills. Merritt drank it and left her groggy, so when she lay down on the beach, she was knocked out and didn't realise when the waves covered her and drowned her.

Kapenash and the Green conclude that Merrit's death was accidental and the case is closed like that.

At the end of the book Karen, Celeste's mother, decides to forget about her intention to commit suicide and let nature take over. During this weekend she overheard her husband tell TAg that he had a moment of weakness with someone he worked with some years ago. When Karen hears the name, she is shocked to realise that Bruce had been attracted to a man. Naturally, Bruce tells Tag that it is a woman. Karen is upset but then she realises that she has nothing to worry about.

Celeste tells Benji that she does not want to marry him, and her intentions is to travel and find time for herself. There is no mention of Shooter.

I really enjoyed the book. It was a great read, and I know that there is a series based on the book and I might watch it.
