SPOILERS!!!
I have to say that the ending of the novel is surprising and I didn't expect it at all.
Jenny finds herself in a quandary when she realises that Orla is trying to entramp her husband. She parks her car opposite where Orla lives, and she watches a van arrive and then Orla and the man kiss passionately. That means that it is Orla who has the affair, and Jenny suspects that Orla wanted to find evidence of her husband cheaing on her so that she could get a good settlement in the divorce. After that, she wonders what to do, and then she approaches Liam and tells him the truth, but he doesn't believe her.
The DNA tests that Dorothy sent to analyse come back negative, which means that there is no blood connection between Jim and Rebecca or Natasha. So Dorothy now suspects that Jim murdered Simon, and them he made his body disappear inside some other coffin. So she gets Archie to help her, and Jenny finds them going through the papers from ten years ago, and she sees Archie hide something. Dorothy tells her about her suspicions and Jenny is outraged, especially when she wants her daughter to help her dig up a grave. Jenny finally agrees, but there is only one body in the coffin. Then Jenny searches the room where Archie works, and she finds the document he hid inside a coffin. With that document she goes to Archie, demanding her to dig up this new grave. They go and inside they find two bodies, one being Simon's. Then Archie tells her that Simon died accidentally. Archie found him abusing a dead body, and Archie confronted him. When he pushed him, Simon hit his head and died. Then Archie went to Jim, who helped him hide the whole thing. Dorothy is shocked, but she finally decides not to say anything to the police, and she goes back to Rebecca and tells her that she found some papers about the life insurance that Jim told her about, and the payments will continue until her daughter is eighteen. I have to say that I found this part far-fetched and hard to believe.
The main case is obviously Mel's death. Hannah is obsessed with finding the person who killed her. Peter Longhorn was questioned and his wife left her, and then he commits suicide, and Hannah feels guilty about it. She tried to get information from Xander, Mel's boyfriend, and Bradley Baker, a tutor. Then Xander gives her some clothes that Mel had left, and in the pocket of a jacket she finds a receipt for a bar -hotel, and she goes there. One of the waiters says that she remembers Mel and she was in the company of an older man. Mel begs him to check if they took a room, and the waiter allows him, and she is shocked to find out that the man Mel was with is her own father, Craig MacNamara. Then Hannah joins the dots, and she thinks that her father must have met Mel and they started an affair and after she found out that she was pregnant, Craig realised his world was at risk.
What Hannah doesn't know is that Jenny is with Craig at home. Hannah sends her mother a text, and when she reads it and confronts Craig, Craig attacks her with a knife, and he tries to excuse murdering Mel, saying that she became obsessed and then she threatened to tell his wife about them and the baby, so she had no option. Jenny is bleeding on the floor when Dorothy appears, and it is her who manages to disarm Craig and injures him. Craig is arrested but first he goes to hospital, and Jenny is also admitted to hospital, but she is in no danger to die.
During Mel's funeral Hannah feels terrible and can't even face Mel's parents as she feels ashamed of being Me's murderer's daughter. Indy makes her see that she is not to blame for her father's deeds. At the funeral Liam turns up and talks to Jenny. He apologises because he has discovered that she was telling the truth, and then he asks her for a drink sometime.
I enjoyed most parts of the book, but I got bored in the last parts because I found some facts and behaviours unbelievable.
