Five Love Affairs and a Friendship: The Paris Life of Nancy Cunard, Icon of the Jazz Age 2 (Pages 56 - 88)

In 1920 Nancy decided to move to France. One of the love affairs the author includes in the title is the one with Michael Arlen. Michael Arlen (born Dikran Sarkis Kouyoumdjian, 16 November 1895 – 23 June 1956) was an essayist, short story writer, novelist, playwright, and scriptwriter. Arlen spent some time in France with Nancy Cunard in 1920, although she was married to someone else at the time.

One of his books "THe Green Hat" included a character based on Nancy. The Green Hat is a 1924 sentimental novel about the bright young things of London by Michael Arlen. The protagonist of the novel, Iris Storm, is a femme fatale with a Hispano-Suiza automobile who is involved in romantic affairs in Bohemian London in the post-World War One era. The genesis of the novel was Arlen's relationship with writer Nancy Cunard in 1920.

Ezra Pound was one of her other loves. Ezra Weston Loomis Pound (30 October 1885 – 1 November 1972) was an American poet and critic, a major figure in the early modernist poetry movement.

Ezra was married to Dorothy Shakespear. Dorothy Shakespear (14 September 1886 – 8 December 1973) was an English artist. She was the daughter of novelist Olivia Shakespear and the wife of American poet Ezra Pound. One of a small number of women vorticist painters, her art work was published in BLAST, the short-lived but influential literary magazine.

In 1921 Nancy published her first book of poems, Outlaws.

Nancy had an affair with Wyndham Lewis. Percy Wyndham Lewis (18 November 1882 – 7 March 1957) was a Canadian-born British writer, painter and critic.

She also had a night of passion with TS Eliot. Thomas Stearns Eliot (26 September 1888 – 4 January 1965) was a poet, essayist and playwright. He was a leading figure of modernist poetry in the English language where he altered the art through his writing style, verse structure and use of pessimistic language.
While Nancy was in Venice, she begged Ezra to come to her. During this time she was surrounded by her friends. She had an affair with Robert McAlmon, who had married the lesbian daughter of Sir John Ellerman, Winifred Ellerman.

Robert Menzies McAlmon (also used Robert M. McAlmon, as his signature name, March 9, 1895 – February 2, 1956) was an American writer, poet, and publisher.

Annie Winifred Ellerman (2 September 1894 – 28 January 1983), known by the pen name Bryher, was an English novelist, poet, memoirist, magazine editor, and a member of the Ellerman ship-owning family.
