RATING: GOOD BUT UNCOMFORTABLE TO READ
SPOILERS!!!
During the Christmas party Winifred goes to find Mr Pounds, and she confesses that she has been looking for him for years because she is his daughter. Pounds is horrified, and she says that her mother worked for his family and when she fell pregnant, she was kicked out of the house. Winifred says that she only wants a family, and then Pounds runs out of the room.
Winifred returns to the dining room, and it is there where she starts killing people. She starts with Miss Manners, who is playing the piano and Winifred cuts her hand. Then she goes from one part of the house to another, stabbing people, and when she finds a crossbow, she uses it to kill most of them. And then when Drusilla sees her, she joins, killing a portion of people as well.
When there is nobody left, Winifred and Drusilla stay in the house, cohabiting with the dead people for twelve days. When a neighbour passing by happens to look through the window and sees the slaughter, she goes to the polcie. When the police arrive, Drusilla ties her hands and she starts saying , "She killed them all". Winifred is arrested, but she doesn't say anything about Drusilla. Winifred is executed and she sees Drusilla, proud and dignified, among the people watching the execution.
I can't say I enjoy the book even though it was very well written. The thoughts of the narrator and her deeds made the reading very uncomfortable.
