The beginning of this novel starts with a death. It is told from the person who has died, and she claims that the girl who is sobbing next to her corpse has betrayed her and she will haunt her.
Then the novel is interspersed with chapters in which the girl found next to the body is questioned by the police. The girl rfueses to tell them her name or the name of the dead girl. She finally tells them that her name is Hope, but I think this is not true.
The other chapters tells us about these two girls coming from a home for children with no families. There are three girls, one of whom is called Lara, is twelve and has had a difficult childhoold. Lara hardly talks, and she isolates herself by curling her body and not letting many to come closer. From these accounts we know that the home is isolated in an area near a cliff and where cars can't come closer. It seems that these two girls ran away that night because they wanted to get married, and the staff in the home have reported their disappearance to the police.
The beginning of this book is quite creepy, and I am intrigued to know more about this home, the girls, and how one of the girls ended up dead.
