 The murders take place in Thorpe. Thorpe Hesley is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham, South Yorkshire. Coal has been mined in and around the area of Thorpe Hesley for at least 800 years. 

Doncaster is where Kate lives and where her job is. Doncaster  is a city in South Yorkshire, the second largest settlement in South Yorkshire after Sheffield. 



Cumbria is where she lived before the divorce. Cumbria is a ceremonial county in North West England. It borders the Scottish council areas of Dumfries and Galloway and Scottish Borders to the north, Northumberland and County Durham to the east, North Yorkshire to the south-east, Lancashire to the south, and the Irish Sea to the west. Its largest settlement is the city of Carlisle.
