These are the characters in the book for further reference.

REGULAR CHARACTERS

• Brigid DiForenza Quinn (59) is the main character in this series. Brigid used to be in the FBI but she resigned when an investigation was launched after she killed a suspect. Now Brigid is married to Carlo, a former university teacher and priest. 
• Carlo DiForenza is Brigid’s husband. Carlo is a former professor and priest, and he is a widower. His first wife died of cancer a few years ago.
• Gemma-Kate Quinn is Brigid's niece. She comes to live with her and Marco after Brigid promised her parents that she would let her have a place with her before university. Gemma Kate wants to study biology, and things between her and Brigid start off on the wrong footing. Brigid starts suspecting Gemma Kate of poisoning her, but Gemma Kate proves that her aunt's suspicions are misplaced and the person that has been hurting Brigid is her friend, Mallory.
• Al and Peg are Brigid's pugs. They didn't have names, but Carlo had to name them when the male dog had to go to the veterinary clinic after he ate a toad and got sick and Carlo was asked the pug's name.
• Dr George Manriquez is the FBI medical examiner.
• Todd Quinn (52) is Brigid's brother. He is a detective in Florida. He is now a widower as his wife died recently
• Fergus Quinn is Brigid's father. 
• Ariel Quinn is Brigid's younger sister, but she is only mentioned as someone who lives independently and doesn't keep tabs on her family
• Deputy Sheriff Max Coyote is a friend of Brigid and Carlo’s but he is absent in this novel.. 
• Chrystal Coyote is Max’s wife.

CHARACTERS IN THIS BOOK

• Mallory Hollinger becomes a good friend to Brigid when she and Carlo meet her at church. Mallory is married to Owen, who is bedridden and invalided since they had a terrible accident. Brigid admires Mallory for the way she is loyal to Owen. Yet, this image is not real. At the end of the book Brigid discovers that Mallory killed young Joe Neilsen, and she plans to kill Owen. When Mallory realises what Brigid knows, she tries to kill her, but thankfully, Brigid overpowers and kills her. 
• Owen Hollinger is Mallory's husband. He had an accident when the car got stuck in the railways and a train hit his car. Mallory was also in the car but she came out unharmed. Mallory's love for her husband was nothing but a facade. What she wanted was for him to die and inherit all his money just as she did with her first husband. Owen helps Brigid by testifying in his own way and prove that Brigid was telling the truth about Mallory. Owen dies shortly afterwards.
• Dr Tim Neilsen is Owen's doctor. He was also Joe Neilsen's stepfather, and their relationship wasn't easy as Tim felt excluded from the relationship Joe had with his mother. Now that he is dead, Tim feels that his wife is even more absent.
• Jacquie Neilsen is Joe's mother. She was convinced that Joe's death was not accidental and asks Brigid to investigate his son's death.
• Detective Sam Humphries is the detective who investigated Joe's death when it happened.
• Annette is Owen's healthcare nurse.
• Joe Neilsen (14) is the boy who died six months ago. Brigid investigates his death and she discovers that Mallory had killed him. 
• Peter Salazar is the boy Gemma Kate becomes friends with when she arrives in Tucson. His father is also a policeman.
• Father Elias Manwaring is the minister in the congregation. He gets upset when he discovers that his son played the choking game with Joe Neilsen, and he was afraid that he may be involved in his death.
• Lulu Manwaring is Father Elias's wife.
• Ken Manwaring is Elias and Lulu's son. He confesses to Brigid what he, Peter and Brigid played the choking game. 
• Anthony Salazar is Peter's father and the local detective. 
• Adrian Franklin is a new arrival in Tucson, and he befriends Brigid, Carlo and Mallory. When he dies after he drinks the coffee laced with antifreeze, it is discovered that Adrian's real name is Frank Ganin, and he was in Tucson because he knew Mallory from the time she was married to her first husband. So he had information to blackmail her. 
• Ruth Salazar is Peter's mother. 
• Marilynn Quinn was Brigid's sister-in-law. She suffered from multicle sclerosis, and she dies at the beginning of the book. Brigid loved her sister-in-law and promised to look after her daughter after she died. What Brigid didn't expect is that she would have to fulfill her promise so soon.
