SPOILERS!!!
I have to say that the novel could not be more exciting. At first I thought it was not going to be too good, but I was wrong.
When suspicion falls on Tommy, Stepan orders Dimitri to take care of him. So he locks him in the panic room in the yacht, a room that is designed to protect those who come to find shelter there, and it can only be opened by a code from inside. The next day Dimitri takes him to the police in Chritiansend. Yet, later that night Erin hears that there was a raid at the station when Tommy was helped to escape, and the police shot him dead. Both Erin and Kai are surprised that someone could even break into the police station.
That night there is an incident when a boat comes too close to the yacht, and it looks as if it were to collide on purpose. Erin becomes the hero of the night when she manages to veer the yatch and then she jumps onto the boat and stops it. What she discovers there is a couple who are drunk and stoned, and that is why their boat had been left adrift.
As Stepan fears for his family's security, he orders they continue sailing without stopping at the next port. He intends to let Marius go after this trip becuase he holds him responsible for hiring someone like Tommy, who proved to be a risk for their security.
It is around midnight when things go wrong. Suddenly, all the lights stops working, and the yacht stop. Then there are some shots. Kai and Zina are together and they go to find her parents, and the four of them hide in the panic room. Marissa stands outside, begging them to let her in, but Stepan refuses. She claims that everybody is dead, and if she is not allowed in, she will die too. Kai pleads with Stepan but he is adamant, and they hear a shot and Marissa dies.
When the lights went out, Erin was in the galley. There she found the chef dead, and then the lights and the engines stopped. After that, she tries to reach the bridge, where she finds Marius dead. Hiding, she discovers that the person shooting is Aleksander, the electric engineer, and she thinks that he must be in cahoots with Dimitri. It was Dimitri who got rid of the security agent because he needed free ride to carry out his plan. Erin discovers that nothing works, and when she is about to be discovered, she jumps into the water. Even though she can hear the shots behind her, she manages to save herself. Her attacker loses interest, and when the shots stop, she knows that she needs to return to the yacht. When she climbs the ladder and looks up, she realises that there is something wrong.
What is wrong is that the yacht is sinking. This is what Kai discovers inside the panic room. When Zina spills some water, he notices that the water remains just in one corner, which means that the yacht is tilting. Then Stephan tells him that he needs to go outside and negotiate with the people who are doing this. Kai is not certain, but he realises that it is better to die from a shot than drowning. When Stephan inroduces the code that opens the door, nothing works and the door won't open. They try several times, but they realise that they are trapped.
I am totally intrigued. I know that Aleksander (if that is his name) is killing everybody aboard, but why? What do they want from the family? Is Dimitri really involved in this plot? And what is Erin going to do? Will she be able to rescue the family? How?
