Three Christmas Mysteries - The Spook of Cornelius

First Published: 1931

RATING: OKAY

SPOILERS!!!

This is a new mystery for Mr Pinson. He visits his friend Bob Dunsford, in Iscaster. The man shows him some archaelogical sight where they have found the signature of the Roman builder, Cornelius Massilensis. Then they go to his house where in the cellar, he has also found the signature, but Dunsford has an unexplained mystery to tell. When he removes a stone from that wall, there is a screech, and he thinks that this is where Cornelius must have died. He thinks this is a ghost.

Pinson realises that there is no ghost. It is true that when he also removed a stone, there was a screech. However, he discovers that next to the house there is a bank, and some thieves were trying to bore a hole in the vault, and the noise was what Dunsford heard.

I found this mystery quite weak and dull.
