SPOILERS!!!
The boy who Todd has as his apprentice finds a lot of hats and walking canes in a cupboard, and he starts feeling afraid. His intention is to leave and go to sea, but then he decides to go and talk to the police. Todd, who suspects that the boy knows too much, goes to the boy's home, and when he comes home, Todd is here. The man is strong and makes him go with him. He leaves him in a madhouse, run by an unscrupulous man who Todd has done busienss with before. Even though Tobias says that he is not mad, nobody won't mind him, especially as Todd will pay good money. We learn that this is where the last apprentice Todd had ended up and died.
Thankfully, Tobias manages to escape a couple of days later. A woman who tells him her story and how she inherited her aunt's estate, and her parents did not love her and did everything to humiliate her. When she fell in love, they took matters into their own hands and got her into the madhouse, where she has been since.
Colonel Jeffery goes to a magistrate with his suspicions, and the man knows about Johanna's intentions to investigate. Johanna dresses up as a boy and gets the job as a replacement for Tobias. The magistrate sends some men to talk to her. In the end Todd is arrested for the murder of many men, and it is discovered that Mrs Lovett used the bodies to make her famous pies. The woman is now dead because Todd, afraid of what she can do, poisons her brandy and she dies.
In the end, Johanna's fiancé Mark Ingestrie is not dead. The man did not die in the shipwreck, and when he got to London, he saw Johanna talking to Colonel Jeffery and thought he had lost her. So that is why she went to Mrs Lovett and offered to work for her. So Mark is the cook, Jarvis Williams. Johanna and Mark finally get married.
This is a well-known story but it is the first time I've read it. It has been quite entertaining and quite horrifying.
