Kate receives the visit of her brother, Marcus. We learn that Marcus was Naomi's boyfriend back then, but she cheated on him. In those days Kate was dating Oliver, but it seems that he also cheated on her with Naomi. The police found a journal written by Kate in which she said that she wanted Naomi dead and described the exact way in which Naomi was murdered.
During her time in prison Kate got a letter from her brother every month, but he never visited and refused to take her calls. Her father did not visit either, and her sister Martha has always been mentally ill. Marcus arranged for Kate to have the flat where she is now in Kingston, and her father has agreed to a monthly allowance but refuses to see her. Marcus is not very happy that Kate is back. He is now married to Claudia and they have a three-year-old, Bethany. Kate tells him that she wants to meet them, and Marcus reluctantly says that he will talk to Claudia about dinner.
Claudia is the narrator in one of the chapters, and we discover that she is afraid of Marcus and even though in the chapter nothing happens, we feel her fear, and we suspect that he beats her. Could Marcus have been the person who killed Naomi?
