I, Witness 4 (Pages 46 - 154)

SPOILERS!!!

The more we learn about Madison, the more I find her fascinating. Her mother had her when she was a teenager. When she got pregnant, her parents threw her out when she refused an abortion. However, Charlotte was not a good mother; she became an alcoholic and there were always men around. Madison was brilliant, but the situation at home was not good. When one of her school partners, Marianne, mocked her because she was wearing a uniform on a non-uniform day, she beat her up. The headmistress, Jessica Mason, called her to her office. Jessica was Madison's salvation, and she told her that Marianne's parents didn't press charges because they understood how bad things were for Madison. Jessica became a mentor for Madison, and she was at her wedding and is Molly's goddaughther. However, her present situation has made Madison adrift and has stopped contacting those she loves.

The first includes Jessica, who thanks to the investigation she contacts again. The second person is Peter, Marianne's brother, and her best friend. It was thanks to Peter why she became a policewoman. Peter was her boss as well. He didn't take it well when she decided to marry Rob because Peter loves her. When Madison had Molly, the idea of being a mother scared her, and she turned to the bottle. We don't know the details yet, but Madison was sacked from her job for drinking when she was on duty. And she also left Molly alone to go and buy vodka. Another thing that happened around that time is that she slept with Peter and cheated on Rob, who found out when she read a letter that Peter sent her. Now Madison can only see her daughter once a fotnight for two hours under supervision. It is during the investigation that Madison contacts Peter to see the files on Kate, and we understand that he is keen on having a relationship with her, but she is the one who keeps away.

As for the investigation, I think that Kate's brother and father have things to hide. Claudia, Marcus's wife, overheard them talk when James came to the house, and she heard that they were afraid that 'she' remembered. We know that James did not support Kate during the police investigation and the subsequent trial. He paid for the lawyer, but he was keen on her admitting her guilt. Madison also discovers that Martha, Kate's sister who is in a mental institution, was at the party, but when she goes tot talk to her, the girl becomes nervous and it seems that she knows something.

And Anthea, Naomi's mother, wants revenge. She keeps following Kate, and now that she has learnt how to pick a lock, she has already been in Kate's flat. She plans to kill her.
