The investigation has not yet produced results to know who the body in the vault was. One thing that they have discovered is that the men that the camera caught and were thought to be the thieves were just students on their way somewhere else. So this means that Wright got into the silver shop with his killer(s).
There are four possible candidates for the identity of the body. They still haven't ruled out Rupert because even though everybody thinks that he is alive but left Decima behind, nobody has heard from him.
The second candidate is Semple, a paratrooper, and Cormoran talks to his wife. She tells him that she is sure that the body is not her husband because she believes that he has gone away with another woman, and there is footage of him, withdrawing money from a hidden account, but that was before the body was found. Semple was a mason like his father, and when he got injured, he became more and more keen on freemasonry. Apart from that, a book that his father wrote about freemasonry had a chapter about someone called William Wright, but he later discovered that he was no mason.
The other candidate is Tyler Powell, a young man who left his hometown, Ironbridge. One neighbour tells Cormoran and Robin that Tyler had a hard time in Ironbridge. The girl who he was smitten with fell for the son of a new family coming to the town. There was a concert, and the girl and her boyfriend wanted to go, and Tyler was supposed to go too, but he couldn't. So the young man, Hugo, borrowed his car, and there was a car crash that killed the girl and left Hugo in a coma. Then the people in town blamed Tyler that he had tampered with the car and that is why they had the accident. That is why he left. His grandmother shows Robin his texts, and after the boy was found, he sent her a new phone number, but the grandmother thinks that the texts come from Tyler's friend. In Ironbridge there is a plaque about one Bill Tyler, who was a football captain.
The fourth candidate is the porn star that Cormoran had a note about. He discovered the actress who left the note, and Robin goes to see her. The woman, Faye, is scared and tells her to go, but she finally agrees to talk to him. She says that Danny, the porn actor, was involved with a rich man who sometimes appears on television. This rich man has a flat and there he filmed people having relations and then buying those images that some of them were aware of. Faye says that her partner, a director, says that Danny hinted to this rich man that he could get money from telling the people. And that is why Faye thinks the body is Danny's.
Robin has been threatened several times: once at Harrods she was grabbed by the throat and someone pushed a toy gorilla in her hand, making reference to her rape, and recently she was accosted by a man wearing a gorilla mask, and they throw a knife at her feet.
Things between Cormoran and Robin are cold. Robin has discovered that Cormoran hasn't told her that there is some mess about Bijou Watkins's baby girl. Holborn, her lover, thinks that the baby could be Cormoran's, and Cormoran has talked to her to say not to involve her. Robin has also had a conversation with Valentine, Charlotte's friend, and he claims that Cormoran hit Charlotte, and he did talk to her the night she killed herself. Robin starts to lose faith in Cormoran, and his plans to declare himself to her are thrwarted when she refuses to travel to Scotland with him. She thinks that all the details that he has had so far: a beautiful bracelet he gave her at Christmas, his offering to lend her money to buy a new Land Rover... all these are just things to keep her contented for the agency's sake. She thinks that he is a callous man who uses women, and her friendship towards him seems to freeze. I have to say that it is understandable that Robin feels insecure about what to think, but I think she is unfair to judge Cormoran so hard.
