SPOILERS!!!
One of the possible men that were likely to be the person in the vault is ruled out. Cormoran and Robin, who have made up, travel to Sark, a small island near Guernsey where Danny de Leon's family lives. It is there that they discover that Danny is alive but on confronting him, Cormoran is hit in the face with a spade. Danny later explains that he came to the island to escape from Lord Oliver Branfoot, who wanted him dead. Oliver Branfoot is the one who was behind some of the articles against Cormoran. He is also who sent those men against Robin. He had the flat who filmed the porn actors and some drunk girls from behind a two-way mirror. Cormoran tells Danny and his brother, Richard, that the only thing to stop Lord Branfoot is by coming clean and tell the press. Danny tells Cormoran and Robin that he needs some time to talk to his mother, who does not know what his life in London is like.
That night Robin and Cormoran are in the B&B alone. Now Cormoran has told her about Bijou and how DNA has proved that Bijou's daughter is not his. This moment is when Cormoran wanted to declare his feelings, but then during the conversation Robin bursts out crying and tells him how she had a ectopic pregnancy and how she discovered that her fallopian tubes are damaged after the rape, and she is not likely to have a natural gestation. Cormoran realises that this is not the time to tell Robin anything.
After they return to London, Robin discovers that Ryan has started to drink again when she finds that his bottle of water contains spirits, and when searching his flat, he finds a bag with vodka bottles. When Robin confronts him, his only response is to cry. He tells her that he had a hard time with the case of the murdered children he was involved him. Robin feels that she can't leave him, and after he promises to return to AA meetings, they make up. Robin also discovers one weekend when she meets his parents that he has bought an engagement ring, and she is afraid that he may propose. She imagines that he won't do so now, but she feels apprehensive. It is clear that she is not in love, but I don't know why she won't admit it.
Cormoran and Robin keep investigating. They get a call from someone claiming to be Rupert, but when Cormoran asks him to tell him something that only he and Decima knows, the person hangs up. As for Tyler, there are people who think that he is working in a pub. Robin talks to Faber Whitehead, the father of the boy who was killed in a crash with his girlfriend, and he tells her that Tyler is a good boy, and he has never thought that he did anything to the car. His suspicion is on Chloe Griffiths because the girl threatened to kill Hugo and Anne Marie when they hinted that he was playing with Tyler and her boyfriend. The night of the concert there is footage of a girl near the car, and Faber says that it could be Chloe.
Kim has resigned after she came on to Cormoran bluntly, and Cormoran told her that she had nothing to do with him. Humiliated, she decided to resign. And the new subcontractor is Wardle, the policeman that has always helped Cormoran. He was not working because he had depression and was considering leaving the police, so Cormoran offered him a job.
