Jenara tells Pipaón that Salvador has been arrested that night. Then when Pipaón goes to his room, he finds Salvador there, and Pipaón starts to feel afraid. Salvador explains that he managed to escape the police, and he is there because he wants to know if Pipaón is trustworthy or he has become loyal to the absolutist regime. Pipaón, who we know is an oportunist, lies through his teeth. He says that it was thanks to him that now his mother Petra is free, and he shows the pamphlets that Ugarte asked him to deliver. Salvador is not sure that he can trust him. Pipaón even says that he is tired of having Jenara and her grandfather in his property, and he would like to see them gone.
