Erika is really angry as she feels coerced byt the Non Disclosure Agreement she and Marsh had to sign. She suspects that the murderer could be a sex worker as two of the murdered men were acccused of abuse. So she talks to a former prostitue, Curly Sue, who tells her that there are rumours about a dossier with photographs with very important men in compromising situations. Then she tells her that her husband, who is a mechanic, has an apprentice who she put into contact with one of the companion clubs to walk companions to meet their clients. Erika talks to the young man, Daniel, and he tells her that there was once a woman who told him about her friend Zach having died of an overdose when he was in a relationship with DeVille, and he seems to remember that her name was Annabelle.
In the parts about Annabelle we discover that she grew up in a children's home where the orderlies abused the children. In the home she was friends with Casey and Zach, and two orderlies were very cruel, Sal and a man who they called Pipes. She remembers one night when she woke up to see Casey being dragged out of her bed, and Annabelle followed her. They took her to the basement, and when Casey tried to fight them, Sal hit her with a spade several times, and they killed her. So they put her in the furnace and nobody heard of Casey again. Annabelle kept her passport which Casey had in a crack under the washbasins in the bathroom.
Erika gets an E-fit picture of Annabelle, and a casting director she talks to, Valerie, tells her that she worked with DeVille and remembers Zach. She was in the young man's funeral, and there were four people attending, and one of them was Annabelle, and she also gives a description of an E-fit picture.
Erika gets into trouble with Igor when she forgets to pick Tom up. Igor is very upset not just about her mistake, but he has learnt that Denise is pregnant and she wants to move with her partner to Spain and take Tom with her. Erika tells him that maybe Tom could stay with him, but Igor is too upset and tells her to leave him alone for a few days.
Annabelle spies on Sal and Pipes, who now live in a cottage together. She plans to kill them, and one night she sneaks into the cottage through a window, and hogties Sal and kills her in the same way as the other guys. Then when she is ready for Pipes, he sees her and fights her. Annabelle stabs him in the thigh and gets into the man's car. Then she runs over him several times, killing him. After that, her plan is to travel to Los Angeles. However, Annabelle has made a mistake. She has left a glove and her polaroid camera behind her.
Annabelle is flying using Casey's passport and she used her name for the visa as well. When Erika and her team investigate the new murder, they find fingerprints in the glove, and they are linked to someone called Casey, who is scheduled to travel to Los Angeles. Erika manages to stop the plane, but before she is arrested, Annabelle swallows a silver key.
In the interrogation room Annabelle makes it difficult for Erika. She says that her fingerprints were found because Pipes came to talk to her because he wanted to make amends, so she was in his car. Even though Erika keeps asking questions, Annabelle is clever in her answers.
During the night when Annabelle is staying in custody, she starts to feel faint and has to be rushed to the hospital. The doctor finds a key obstructing her intestines, and Erika gets the key with a number. As she was in her flat, the janitor gave her an envelope that Annabelle got. It was a letter from a bank, and Erika realises that the key opens a deposit box in that bank. In the bank they discover a folder with lots of photographs of famous men in compromising situations. Then she realises that she has the key to trap Annabelle.
Once Annabelle is well, she is brought for questioning, and Erika shows the dossier found in her deposit box. And then she explains that polaroid photographs have a code which indicates the camera that they came from and the film, and all the photographs found in the crime scenes as well as the ones in the dossier show that she bought films from DeVille, who usually bought them in baulk for his job. Annabelle realises that she has nowhere to hide and tells Erika about Sal and Pipes and how they abused children and they killed Casey. She also says that DeVille got Zach into drugs which killed him. And she says that Lomas beat her up and Jamie Teague didn't stop when she said no. Her only regret was Jessica, who didn't deserve to die.
The next chapter takes place three months later. We learn that Tom finally stayed with Igor to complete his last year at school. Annabelle's trial is to start that day, and Erika and her team arrive. Then McGorry tells them that Russell, the homeless man who was DeVille's lover and would testify about the sale of the polaroid films to Annabelle, was found dead in the bath last night. Then Erika sees the man in the grey suit who threateaned her in her house as well as Isaac among the public, and when Annabelle is asked whether she pleads guilty or not guilty, the woman says not guilty because she knows they can't find her guilty after Russel's death. It seems that those protecting Lomas and some other important men have got rid of the most important witness. We understand that the story will continue in the next instalment.
