RATING: VERY GOOD

This was a great read and Jane Austen introduces us a different character. A woman who is sly and manipulative.

The book starts in November 19, where several lawyers get together and discuss a recent case. The accused was found non guilty because of the testimony of a young girl. One of the lawyers, Mr Treves, a retired solicitor, considers that a murder is not the beginning but the end, point zero, and it started months or years before.

Edward had a private tutor, Richard Cox, but he was with other boys his own age in the schoolroom. Richard Cox (c. 1500 – 22 July 1581) was an English clergyman, who was Dean of Westminster and Bishop of Ely. He was made Almoner to Prince Edward, in whose education he took an active part.

The Private Lives of the Tudors 2 (Pages 30 - 53)




 The book describes how royalty dressed and mentions the Great Wardrobe of Robes and Beds, which originally was in the Towaer of London, and then it moved to Baynard Castle. It served primarily as a storehouse for the king's state and ceremonial robes, as well as those pertaining to members of the Royal Family and Household, to ambassadors, ministers, Knights of the Garter and various other office-holders. Cloths and hangings, as used at coronations, funerals and other occasions of state, were also kept here; as were items such as beds and other furnishings for royal and official use. These items had previously been kept in the Tower of London.

New Book - We Solve Murders - We Solve Murders Series 1 - by Richard Osman (Pages 1 - 53)

 

First Published: 2024

The book opens with the murder of an influencer called Andrew Fairbanks. He was found with a shot in his head, tied to a yacht and his body attacked by sharks, and there was a bag with a million dollars tied to it. The book mentions Françcois Loubet linked to this death, and we later discover that this man is a money smuggler, and three deaths are suspected to be linked to him.

Gerona - Facts


 The novel is mainly about the siege of Gerona during the Napoleonic Wars. The third siege of Girona occurred in northern Catalonia, Spain from 6 May to 12 December 1809, during the Napoleonic Wars. Though badly outnumbered, the Spanish defenders forced a lengthy siege, and a large French army was pinned down for an entire campaigning season.

Gabriel travels with the army to Andalucia, and one of his fellow soldiers is Andresillo Marijuán, who tells him about the war in Gerona. So this story is told from the perspective of Andrés.

The yacht is moored at St Thomas, US Virgin Islands. Saint Thomas is one of the U.S. Virgin Islands in the Caribbean Sea, and an unincorporated territory of the United States. The territorial capital and port of Charlotte Amalie is located on the island. Of the three islands, St. Thomas is the second largest, with St. Croix being the largest, and St. John, the smallest.
